Very nice crumb cake! Nice texture and flavor! I made as directed with ease. Next time I prepare this, I think I may add a few toasted almonds to the topping! This recipe would be great served for breakfast or for snack. Thanks, Shirl, for sharing your recipe with us!

  1. Combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon and baking powder.
  2. Cut in shortening, reserve 1/2 cup; set aside.
  3. Place beaten egg in a measuring cup and add enough milk to equal one cup.
  4. Add vanilla and combine with flour mixture, mix well.
  5. Pour into a greased 8 x 8 pan.
  6. Sprinkle with reserved dry mixture.
  7. Dot with butter, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Bake 25 minutes at 375°.
