- Heat sufficient oil in a heavy, deep saucepan to 186 degrees Celcius.
- Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat egg, milk, and melted butter. Make a well in the dry ingredients, and mix in the liquid ingredients to form a soft dough.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, and roll until 1 cm thick. Cut with a doughnut cutter, or with larger and smaller cookie cutters.
- Fry in heated oil until both sides are golden brown, and the inside is cooked. Drain on absorbent paper, and dip into a glaze of your choice.
