directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In microwave, or in sauce pan on stove, melt chocolate and butter on a low setting in a medium-size microwave-safe bowl. Stir several times during melting process to prevent burning. When chocolate is melted, stir in sugar, salt, vanilla, cornstarch and eggs(beaten) until well blended. Stir in evaporated milk until smooth. Pour into pie shell. Mix coconut and pecans together. Sprinkle them evenly over the chocolate mixture. Use a knife to cut through the coconut into the chocolate mixture in several places. Bake 45 to 50 minutes, or until center is set.

  1. This is the recipe that my grandmother always made. I made it last week for my mother's birthday celebration. As always, it was a big hit. Thanks for posting!

  2. This makes a very rich pie. I'm not a big fan of german chocolate and have substituted it with semi-sweet. I believe the original recipe is from Baker's Chocolate.
