Easy Layered Chicken Tortilla

This recipe is very simple and the heat is easily adjusted to taste by using mild-hot salsa. It is a family favourite and is a great meal served with a green salad.

This was really yummy! My kids liked it too - minus the onions. I was unclear what tex-mex seasoning was so I just used taco seasoning to taste (about half a bag). Great for leftovers too.

  • 3 cups cooked chicken, diced
  • 1 cup shredded tex-mex cheese
  • 12 cup diced onion
  • 2 cups sour cream, low fat works fine
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies, drained
  • 1 teaspoon Tex-Mex seasoning
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa, you choose the heat
  • 3 large tortillas, I like using salsa flavoured wraps
  • 12-1 cup shredded tex-mex cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In large bowl stir together chicken, cheese, onion, sour cream, green chilies and seasoning.
  3. Spray a 10-inch quiche or pie plate with no stick spray.
  4. Pour 1 C salsa in dish.
  5. Place tortilla inside dish making sure bottom of wrap is uniformly coated with salsa.
  6. Spread half of chicken mix on top of tortilla.
  7. Top with another tortilla.
  8. Add remaining chicken mix.
  9. Top with another tortilla.
  10. Spread top with another 1/2 C salsa or more if needed to cover.
  11. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 C cheese.
  12. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until bubbly.
  13. Let stand 5 minutes.
  14. Cut into wedges and serve with additional salsa.
