Easy Dog Biscuits

"Make some quick and easy treats for your doggie!"

• Ingredients: 4
• Serves: 6-8

ingredients

• 2 (2 1/2 ounce) jars turkey baby food
• 1 (2 1/2 ounce) jar beef baby food
• 9 tablespoons powdered milk
• 13 tablespoons wheat germ

directions

1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Mix all ingredients together and form into small balls; place onto lightly greased cookie sheets.
3. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
4. Store in refrigerator.

Yeah...a dog food treat that has more protein than fat and is lower in carbohydrates. So many of the pet treat home recipes use peanut butter and are terribly high in calories. Our canine companions, much like many owners, really do not need these excessive and empty calories. I like that this recipe uses gerber baby foods, as they are highly digestible and not full of fillers. I often recommend them for convalescent patients. The only thing to watch on this recipe is to make sure they are not lactose intolerant. If "Max" doesn't get loose stools and has no skin allergy problems, I would say this is one of the better home treat recipes I have seen on 'zaar. Of course, remember, all things in moderation! Thanks for sharing! (No I didn't actually make the recipe, but as a veterinarian, nutrition is a special area of interest for me, so I just couldn't keep my nose out of things!) I had to come back after posting this to say I was not referring to the "max" in a previous review...I only chose that name because it is the most popular dog name in the US...oops!

I substituted plain quick cooking oatmeal for the wheat germ since one dog is allergic to wheat and they turned out wonderful. Both dogs love these. I triple the batch and so I have extras in the freezer. So simple, healthy and inexpensive. I have also substituted canned pumpkin for a jar of the baby food and the dogs still can't get enough.

Max the Boston Terrier said 5 stars all the way. As you can see by the picture, these were a real hit!!! Made exactly as directed.
