  • In large bowl pour hot water over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt, and egg. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form stiff dough. Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into bone shapes. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Cool. They will dry out quite hard. Makes about 1 1/4 pounds of biscuits. Costs around 30 cents per pound.
  • Variation: increase margarine to 1/2 cup and add 2 teaspoons sugar.

I used 1 cup of whole wheat and 2 cups of bread flour (I buy it 50 lbs. at a time at Costco) and I substituted bacon grease for the margarine. They were a huge hit with the pups!

Really like the recipe very easy to make and my dog's love them! I do use beef or chicken broth instead of the water and also coffee creamer instead of the powdered milk, also add a bit more flour as it needs it in order to even be able to roll out and cut into shapes
