ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 (3/4 ounce) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1⁄2 cup warm water
- 2 eggs
- flour
directions
- Scald milk, when milk is hot add sugar, shortening and salt (First 4 ingredients). Stir ingredients until they have fully dissolved. Then let cool.
- While milk is cooling take a medium size bowl place the yeast, sugar and warm water (Next 3 ingredients). Set aside and let foam, this will take about 20 minutes.
- Beat the eggs and set aside.
- When milk mixture has cooled so that it doesn’t feel hot, add some flour (about 2 cups to start). Then add the eggs. Next add the yeast and more flour enough to make a soft dough – when the dough is no longer sticky that is enough flour.
- Let the dough set for about 10 minutes then knead a few times, then grease the top. Place clean towel over the bowl letting the dough rise until doubled in size –this will take about 45 to 50 minutes.
- Mix down again and let rise again but not double –about 15 minutes.
- Punch down and make into rolls.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 14 or so min depending on roll size this makes about 15-20 rolls.
- Bake rolls until golden brown.
