This was an adopted recipe from Recipe*zaar I made these delicious squares last night, they are really moist and tasty! I did change the recipe and I am happy with the results. I used butter, my two apples measured 1 1/2 cups.
- 118.29 ml butter or 118.29 ml margarine, softened
- 177.44 ml sugar
- 1 egg
- 4.92 ml pure vanilla extract
- 2 apples, peeled finely chopped
- 118.29 ml nuts, chopped
- 118.29 ml dates, chopped
- 354.88 ml flour
- 2.46 ml baking soda
- 4.92 ml baking powder
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Blend butter and sugar, then beat in egg and vanilla until mixture is light and fluffy
- Stir in apples, dates and nuts. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and baking soda.
- Gradually stir flour mixture into the fruit mixture. The batter will be very stiff, but it will mix together nicely, keep stirring!
- Spread into a greased 9"x9" pan and bake until golden brown. 30 - 45 minutes (I used and 8" pan and it required 45 minutes to bake.
This was very simple recipe to do and oh so very delicious as well. I didn't have any nuts so I increased the date to 2/3 cup instead of 1/2 cup. :-)
I've just taken these out of the oven and if they taste anything like they smell, then I can't wait to bite into them! I increased each ingredient by half as I was using a 9X13 pan, however, I used two full eggs. I baked for 40 minutes. The top seems a bit dark compared to the picture above, but I'm sure it won't affect the taste. I'll include other comments later after I've tasted them.
So moist and delicious, I nearly swooned they were so good! I'm planning to make some myself really soon!
