  1. I really like the spicyness of the tomato sauce, and I couldn't help but dip some French bread into it while it was still warm. I also used fresh garlic, even though I also had garlic powder, and I think the fresh garlic worked well in this recipe. This is a great tomato sauce, and not watery at all, and has a nice thickness to it.

  2. I halved the recipe and used a couple large garlic cloves (fresh) in place of the garlic powder. Since it wasn't specified, I used cider vinegar, brown sugar, and yellow onion. I put the water, onion, garlic & spices in the blender then whisked the resulting mixture with the other ingredients in a mixing bowl. This was very different and I enjoyed it a lot. I think this would also be good to dip things like breadsticks or cheesy garlic bread. Thanks for sharing your dad's recipe!

  3. I can't keep the tortilla chips out of this sauce ! It's such a nice change over chunky jar salsa and so easy to blend up. I only made a half recipe and it made approx. 2 cups. Thanks xochitl for posting your dad's sauce recipe !
