- 2 1⁄2 cups water
- 12 ounces tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1⁄2 cup vinegar
- 1⁄2 cup ketchup
- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon sugar
directions
- Put all of ingredients in blender and blend.
- Serve with chips.

I really like the spicyness of the tomato sauce, and I couldn't help but dip some French bread into it while it was still warm. I also used fresh garlic, even though I also had garlic powder, and I think the fresh garlic worked well in this recipe. This is a great tomato sauce, and not watery at all, and has a nice thickness to it.

I halved the recipe and used a couple large garlic cloves (fresh) in place of the garlic powder. Since it wasn't specified, I used cider vinegar, brown sugar, and yellow onion. I put the water, onion, garlic & spices in the blender then whisked the resulting mixture with the other ingredients in a mixing bowl. This was very different and I enjoyed it a lot. I think this would also be good to dip things like breadsticks or cheesy garlic bread. Thanks for sharing your dad's recipe!
