- 1 3⁄4 lbs dried beef, sliced
- 15 cups warm whole milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1⁄2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup salad oil
- 1⁄4 cup butter
- 3⁄4 teaspoon black pepper
directions
- Separate dried beef slices.
- Saute slices in shortening until edges begin to curl.
- Set aside.
- Heat milk until just below boiling. (DO NOT ALLOW TO BOIL!).
- Combine butter with flour and pepper and add to milk.
- Cook 5 minutes until thickened.
- Add beef to sauce and blend well.
- Serve over noodles or toast.
