I just love these timeless coffee bars, way before Starbuck's and designer coffee became all the rage! Back when our families had peculators!

Very nice bar. Next time I would bake in a 9 x 9 pan so that the bars would be thicker. I had to leave the raisins out for DH but if you like raisins, I would definitely add them. I love raisins. I would also add milk instead of water to the glaze next time. Thanks Kiwidutch for a nice treat. Made for The Best of 2008 Cookbook.

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream together shortening or butter, brown sugar and egg, then stir in coffee.
  3. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  4. Blend in raisins and walnuts.
  5. Spread mixture in a greased 9-by-13-inch pan and bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
  6. Mix together ingredients for glaze. Cut cake into bars and frost with glaze while warm.
