I don't remember where I came by this recipe, but I know I've been making it for years. It's very good.

  1. Mix flour, butter and 3 tbsp sugar until smooth; spread in 8" pan and bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
  2. Blend together sugar and eggs; then add flour, baking powder and baking soda.
  3. Add vanilla, and the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Spread over top of cooked pastry.
  5. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
  6. Cool.

A very slight variation on my recipe, which has the same crust, 1 cup bnrown sugar instead, 1 cup coconut instead, no nuts, no baking soda. I think the nuts are a nice idea. I also add almond extract to the filling mixture and frost. Mine from the Pillsbury cookie cookbook. A pretty,; fancy bar cookie.
