Cheesy Potatoes Au Gratin

"A very easy side dish that tastes awesome!Great with a ham dinner. You won't miss the sour cream or canned soup from the other hash brown casserole recipes"

• Ingredients: 5
• Serves: 12

ingredients

• 1.5 (24 ounce) packages shredded hash browns
• 1⁄2 lb butter or 1/2 lb margarine
• 1 pint half-and-half
• 1 lb Velveeta cheese, cubed
• salt and pepper

directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Place frozen hash browns in a buttered 9x13-inch pan.
3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine half and half, butter and cheese cubes, stirring until cheese has melted and sauce is smooth.
4. Pour over the frozen hash browns, making sure all the sauce is incorporated into the potatoes.
5. Let stand at room temperature for one hour.
6. Bake, uncovered for one hour until potatoes are lightly browned and bubbly.

Such an easy and tasty dish to prepare. (I had an onion I needed to use up, so I chopped it up and added it to the dish, but it is not necessary). You are so right, I did not miss the sour cream or canned soup. Thank you. :-)

I took this to a potluck at work and everybody loved it. I followed the directions, but there were little pools of butter all over the top when I took it out of the oven. I spooned them off and mixed up the casserole a bit, but it was still a little greasy for my taste. Good flavor, though.

I have my own recipe for cheesey hash browns called Recipe # 225909. Actually I should say I HAD a recipe because my daughter who we call Cissy loved this recipe better than her own. As did the rest of us. We only ate half of the dish so I have frozen the rest and we can't wait to have it again! - NOTE: SOMEHOW MY 5 STARS DID NOT APPEAR....

These is great. We've had this dish twice in the past two weeks. The second time, we added cubed ham steak (don't add any extra salt with this version). It's delicious and reheats nicely in the microwave.
