I adopted this recipe and this is the original description "This is a self-saucing pudding".
- 3⁄4 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup ground hazelnuts
- 350 g condensed milk
- 25 g butter
- 1⁄2 cup skim milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3⁄4 cups water
- 3⁄4 cup brown sugar
- Place first 5 ingredients over a saucepan until melted.
- Stir in rest of ingredients.
- Pour batter into a pie plate.
- Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes until done.
3 1/2. Although it did thicken I did cut down the recipe amount. I used milk also for the water part following the more fat content of the five star review of Kittencals. I also left out the hazelnuts but added finely ground almonds as I do in puddings sometimes. My suggestion is whoever tries this next not add any nuts at all. The reason for the stars being so low is the texture came out glumpy (some parts thicker than others) and if it hadn't been I still would have given 4 stars for taste. Maybe the clumpyness was due to decreasing the recipe. Made for RECIPE TAG GAME in Kittencal's forum.
Im sorry this just didnt work for me at all. It didnt thicken in anyway...looking at the recipe is it possible that a mistake was made in the ingredients?? It does seem to have a lot of water and no thickener. I did end up salvaging it because it had a nice sweet taste to it and I dont like to waste things, I added some corn flour and 4 slices of torn up fruit bread and made like a fruit type bread pudding which tasted nice but I guess its not really following this recipe is it?? I may use it for my bread pudding again though ;). Di :)
My bf said he wanted an old fashioned, home made butterscotch pudding for dessert this thanksgiving instead of pie.I found this one and made it last night.I followed the recipe exactly but it failed to thicken at all.I baked for the 30 minutes at 350 and it would not thicken at all.I baked it longer and still watery. One review said it won't look thick but will thicken as it cools.Tried that and still nothing.I poured it back into a saucepan after adding some cornstarch to the mixture and cooked a little more.Put back in the oven and tried again.Still came out soupy, not thick at all. I had tasted it before putting in the oven the first time and it was very good but I tasted it after the last oven try and all I could taste was the condensed milk. I need someone to tell me what I did wrong.Too much cooking maybe? I want this to work and that is why no stars,I will try again and then give hopefully 5 stars. Thanks Lauralie41 for the recipe but I need to figure out how to make it work for me.I like the idea that it does'nt call for eggs.
