"very old basic recipe that darlene kossman made alot .no eggs in this very easy to put together . has a few variations this is moist dense spicy sweet cake that they probably ate the next day because it keeps a little better than the chocolate cakes lol"

ingredients

• 236.59 ml sugar
• 4.92 ml salt
• 118.29 ml shortening
• 4.92 ml vanilla
• 354.88 ml applesauce
• 4.92 ml baking soda
• 473.18 ml flour
• 4.92 ml cinnamon
• 1.23 ml allspice
• 0.61 ml clove
• 177.44 ml raisins
• 118.29 ml nuts, chopped
• 118.29 ml dates (optional)

directions

1. cream sugar and shortening.
2. add soda to applesauce.
3. sift dry ingredients.
4. add to creamed mixture.
5. add raisins and nuts and applesauce.
6. pour into greased 9 inch cake pan i used tube
7. bake slowly 325 degrees for 60 minutes.
