This is DH's favorite apple (or other fruit) crisp. I’ve made it with pears, peaches, apricots, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and combinations. It is easy, fast, and makes great leftovers. It is from the Betty Crocker 1954 Cookbook.

  1. Peel, core and slice apples thinly.
  2. Spread apples in a greased 8-inch round pan and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  3. Combine oats, sugar, flour and butter.
  4. Strew mixture evenly over apples.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes.
  6. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or cream.

My DH and I both thought this recipe was a keeper! It was quick and easy... very simple, but YUMMY! I was out of quick cooking oats, so I substituted with two packets of instant apple & cinnamon oatmeal. It was very good. We served it warm with french vanilla ice cream. YUM!

I have not tried this recipe. My copy I got from a community cookbook. The recipe is slightly different. It calls for 4-5 medium apples, and no cinnamon. The rest is the same. Thanks for posting. Christine (internetnut)

Great simple recipe for a fruit crumble. I love the flavour of cinnamon and apples, so I knew I'd really enjoy this. My crunch mixture was very moist and not very crumbly with the ingredients as listed, but I just patted it into a large circle to cover the apples and it worked great. The only thing I'd change is to reduce the amount of brown sugar a little as the topping was a bit on the sweet side for my taste, or maybe just use some tarter apples next time. Great recipe, thanks for sharing.
