Apple Fritters With Spiced Syrup

- crisco canola oil (for frying)

CINNAMON SUGAR
- 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
- 3⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

SPICY SYRUP
- 1⁄2 cup maple syrup or 1/2 cup table syrup
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

BATTER
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1⁄2 cup milk
- 1 medium apple, peeled, cored and chopped to make 1 cup
- 1 tablespoon crisco canola oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
directions
- Heat 2-3 inches of oil to 365F in deep fryer or deep saucpan.
- CINNAMON SUGAR: While oil heats, combine sugar and cinnamon in a resealable food storage bag.
- SPICED SYRUP: Mix syrup and cinnamon and heat in a microwave safe bowl or on low heat in a saucepan. Keep warm while peparing fritters.
- BATTER: Combine egg and milk in large bowl. Stir in apple and oil.
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in another bowl. add to egg mixture. Stir until just mixed.
- Drop by Tablespoonfuls a few at a time into hot oil. Fry about 4 minutes or until golden brown. Turn as needed for even browning. Remove with slottled spoon. Drain on paper towels.
- Gently shake fritters in cinnamon sugar mixture. Place in a shallow serving bowl. Drizzle with warm syrup. Serve warm.
