  • Combine ingredients in crockpot; cover and cook on "high" setting for 4 hours
  • Remove cover; cook 4 hours more
  • Add cider vinegar and continue to cook, uncovered, for 4 hours more
  • Cook a total of 12 hours, stirring occasionally during the last 8 hours.
  • Place apple butter in sterile canning jars; cap and allow to cool
  • Keep some out for immediate use and store remaining jars in freezer.

  1. Turns out my slow cooker runs at a very high temperature. I cooked it on high for 4 hours, with 1 cup brown and 3/4 cup granulated sugar, and then I used my immersion blender on the very well cooked apple slices. I should have just cooked it uncovered for 2 more hours on low at that point and I think it would have been perfect, instead I cooked it for an additional 3 hours on high and burnt it. Oh well, now I know what to do next time.
     
  2. I used all the measurements that you have here and made the apple butter, the only difference is that I cooked it on the stove top. The flavor of the butter is fantastic! I will be using this recipe again. Thanks.
