directions

• Mix yeast with warm water and set aside.
• In another bowl, beat together the milk, eggs, sugar, salt and oil.
• Mix in the flour.
• Cover and let rest overnight.
• Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
• Divide into half and roll each into rounds, 1/4" thickness.
• Try not to work the surface flour into the dough.
• Cut each circle into 8 pie-shaped wedges.
• Roll up each wedge crescent style, starting with the wide end, rolling to the end point. Don't roll them to tight!
• Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet (or on parchment paper) and allow to rest until double in bulk.
• Bake in preheated 375F oven, on the middle rack, for 12 minutes.
• Time shown does not include the 'overnight' period. I've allowed 1 hour for rising (included with cooking time).

Questions & Replies

1. When do you mix in the yeast?

2. So I just realized that I lost my mom's "family secret angel roll recipe" that I make every year for Thanksgiving. This looks very close to it, but hers would rise overnight at room temp ( or in a slightly warm place ), is that ok to do with these, or do they HAVE to rest in the fridge? Also, I'm glad to hear that people have substituted butter for the oil with no problem, I have been wanting to do that for a couple of years now, but afraid to do so for fear of ruining them

3. I assume when you are covering and letting dough rest it’s in refrigerator and not at room temp. When I put in fridge before it never rose until at room temp next day when forming crescents.

1. Just like my Mom used to make. Absolutely wonderful. Used my bread machine and substituted butter for the oil, and Wow!!! Thank you for this recipe. Easy and winderful

2. I quadruple the recipe and made them into rolls. (Had to add a bit of extra flour) They turned out beautifully. They're like little clouds. This recipe is a keeper!

3. These truly are heavenly! The taste and texture are dreamy and the best part is is that they are the easiest rolls in the world. I made some and took over to my brothers family and my 18 year old nephew text me that night and said "Thanks for the rolls, they were out of this world". I have tried these using melted butter instead of oil and they turned out even yummier! I was afraid it would change the texture but they were about the same :)

4. Wow, this was a great find! These rolls are so light and delicious and just plain old yummy. I used my bread machine to mix the dough, then let it rest in a warm spot, covered with a towel for about 4 hours. Then I punched it down and rolled it into crescents and let rise about 45 min. They rose just beautifully and were gorgeous (see photo). I did find them to be a bit sweet so I'll reduce the sugar by a few tablespoonfuls next time. You must try these, you will love them. Made for PAC 2011. These go in the "Best of the Best" file. Thx so much Sharflan!

5. These rolls were very good and we enjoyed them very much. They are easy to make and light and so good flavored. All you need is a little butter to make them rolls from heaven above, No wonder they are called angel rolls :)

Born and raised in Vermont, I now reside on the western border of Toronto, Ontario. It's beautiful here! With 5 children grown and gone, I have lots of time in my kitchen - just my husband & I to feed!! It keeps the neighbors happy as I'm constantly knocking at door's with a plate of goodies in hand! Previously a teacher of theraputic crafting & a chocolatier (Sweet Impressions in NB doing molds, carvings & individual chocolates), I am now designing needlework and loving it! I have a large cupboard of cookbooks, downsized when I moved into this condo (I did have an actual CLOSET of cookbooks!) I think nothing of curling up with a good cookbook read! My children enjoy the same and have large and varied collections of their own.
