when making fruit cake, what mixture should i use? super moist cake mix or french vanilla cake mix

I wanted to make a red velvet cake for work, I tried this recipe, and I am sorry to say it was horrible. I should have guessed it would be with 2 cups of oil, I put it in the fridge and the oil was clearly too much, the texture was the worst. Everyone that tried a bite suffered an upset stomach. The frosting was good.

I used Splenda instead of sugar. The vanilla is Mexican, we live 60 miles from the Arizona – Mexican border, in Tucson.
