Brings Back Memories TUNA CASSEROLE

"My sister used to make this all the time, but had to lie to me about the cream of mushroom soup because when I was little I thought I didn't like mushrooms! She would tell me it was cream of chicken soup (which you can substitute if you wish). I loved this comfort food and am so glad I found the recipe again. Now trying to get my kids to eat it might prove to be a feat :)"

 1. I use the same ingredients but not the same ratio, I use 12 oz. bag of egg noodles, cooked of course. 3 cans albacore tuna 2, cans of peas, 2 cans mushroom soup, 1 can milk, I don't measure so I crumble 2 handfuls of plain potato chips into casserole, I use unsalted but that is up to you. A handful grated cheese and then bake about 45 minutes, until bubbly hot, then cover top with with chips and then cheese, bake until cheese melt and serve. Everyone loves it! It's not dry and better ratio of noodles to tuna and peas.

 2. Delicious! It really did bring back memories. I subbed with cream of chicken soup. Thanks!

 3. If you are a tuna lover this will delight your taste buds! i had to use macroni, cause when i got ready to make it I found my pantry empty of noodles. Makes a very quick lunch, took very littel time to make. I will for sure add this to my recipe book. Thanks Karen!

 4. Whoa- this is a blast from the past! I doubled the cream of mushroom soup and milk since previous reviewers found it a bit dry, but it didn't have enough of a tuna taste because of that! So I recommend doubling the tuna as well if you do double the above ingredients. I also used a combo of plain corn flakes, bread crumbs, and butter since I didn't have chips. Added olives, too! Really tasty- thank you for sharing! :)

 5. Watch the MSG in Cream of Musroom Soup, and all canned soups for that matter. the MSG makes my body ache!

Tweaks

 1. Used organic soup and whole wheat noodles to make it a little healthier.

 2. We enjoyed this but it seemed sort of dry. I think that I will double the soup next time. And might try bread crumbs instead of chips. But overall this was exactly what we were craving (ie not cheese) Thanks for a great stepping off point.

 3. I substituted 2c macaroni (measured before cooking) for noodles. I used cream of celery soup instead of cream of mushroom. I added two cans of tuna instead of one. I added parmesan cheese. I used French's fried onion on top instead of potato chips. I only cooked it for about fifteen minutes. It was great!

I live in Pa (outside of Philadelphia) and cooking, baking, cross-stitching and reading are my hobbies.

I collect cookbooks and cookie stamps/cutters and have a pretty big collection of both. I am also a fan of all things Amish, so I have quite a collection of things picked up in Reading, Lancaster and surrounding areas here in Pennsylvania.

I have 4 kids, who are the loves of my life and cooking for them and my husband keeps me on my toes! ;)

We bought an ice cream parlor in March 04 and it's been quite an experience!

Note: I love getting feedback on my recipes; all I ask is that you actually *make* them before reviewing them.

Also, if you make changes or substitutions, I'd love to see your suggestions and/or comments, but I'd appreciate no rating at all if it's not made as posted. Too many recipe reviews state margarine subbed for butter (if I list butter, it's REAL butter), different spices, low-fat ingredients, whole wheat flour instead of white, etc. The recipes will not work/taste as intended, so it's really not fair to rate them as such.

I'd also really appreciate it if you refrain from rating a recipe if you overcook or overbake it or it you don't refrigerate or store as listed.

I, of course, will adhere to the above when rating recipes, too!

Thanks and have a great day!

My Rating System:

***** A delicious recipe that was thoroughly enjoyed. It has excellent, detailed directions and is perfect as is. If a dish is especially easy, and I'm on the fence, I will give it 5* for ease even if it's very good instead of great. Something I will definitely make again.

**** Excellent recipe but confusing directions that I will make again in my own less confusing way OR Very good recipe that I'll probably make again if I find the time!

*** Good/OK recipe but probably not something I would make again OR Very Good recipe that doesn't have clear, detailed directions.

** Recipe was edible but not really enjoyed and will not be made again. Work involved not a good trade-off for the end result.

* Not edible and probably an error in the recipe. I feel that I pick recipes with ingredients our family likes, so in my opinion, there's an error somewhere. If there's a chance I made the error, I won't rate the recipe. ;)
