ingredients
- 1⁄3 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup tomato paste
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
- 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
- 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
- 2 lbs short rib of beef
- 1 small tomatoes, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon cold water
directions
- If you have time, brown the ribs in a little oil. If not, just throw them in the crockpot.
- Put all the rest of the ingredients except the cornstarch and 1 Tbsp cold water in the crockpot too.
- Mix just to combine and coat the ribs.
- Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until meat is tender.
- I have left it for as long as 8 hours and they came out fine. If you leave them in for a long time, just check to see if it needs any water now and then.
- Before serving, combine the cornstarch and cold water until smooth.
- Gradually stir into cooking juices to make gravy.
- Cover and cook 10-15 more minutes until thickened.

I haven't made this specific recipe, but it is very similar to how I prepare my short ribs. The only changes are that I add some chipotles in adobo for spice and, while making the gravy, grill the ribs so that they get a nice crispy outer layer. Cooking them first in the crockpot makes them so tender, it's amazing.

We enjoyed these ribs! I had boneless country style ribs on hand so I used those and doubled the ingredients for the sauce. Didnt use the full amount of salt and that worked for us. Also browned the ribs in olive oil before adding them to the crock pot. The sauce had a nice tangy flavor but not so much of a barbecue zip. Will try these again with short ribs! Made and reviewed for Kittencal's Crock Pot and Rice Cooker Game.

I live on the East Coast. We have a cute little house 2 blocks from the beach. It was built in 1947. Someday I would like to renovate the kitchen, but that is all I would change.
I collect 1940's/50's textiles. I love the colorful tablecloths, dishtowels, aprons, and hankies and I use them! I also collect Fiesta dinnerware in all the bright colors.
My hobby is making stained glass. The real deal - with lead, solder, sharp edges and plenty of band-aids! I love it because each piece is unique and because it is a hobby that has taught me to slow down. Good things come out of patience and effort.
I'm married to my best friend. I adore him and I'm so proud of him. He recently retired from a 30 year military career. We balance each other; he keeps my feet on the ground and I keep his head in the clouds.
At home we have 3 dogs who let us live with them. Two of them are beagles, Ralph and Layla, and one is a redbone coonhound, Killian. They hunt only their next treat, though. Layla specializes in holding down the couch, Ralph is a great co-pilot on car rides, and Killian recently graduated from obedience school with a C+, LOL.
We are recent "empty nesters," since my three children are all launched and out in the world doing their own thing. I am super proud of my two daughters and my son. Trying to learn to cook for just 2 now; it's been HARD!
