  • Cake:Melt butter, cocoa, and water and bring to a rapid boil.
  • Pour over sugar and flour mixture and mix with an electric mixer.
  • Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla and mix well.
  • Mixture will be very runny.
  • Pour into 11x16 greased sheet cake pan.
  • Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
  • Cake is done when it begins to pull away from the sides of the pan.
  • Bake time will vary with different ovens.
  • Leave cake in pan and cool before icing.
  • Icing: Mix first 3 ingredients and bring to a rapid boil, remove from heat and add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Beat with mixer until smooth.
  • Stir in pecans by hand and spread on cooled cake.

  4. Just finished making this cake and cannot tell you how easy and quick it came together. One hint make sure your pan is the right size, mine was only 1 inch deep and the cake did spill over. Doesn't matter because the cake is delicious, hubby just finished his second piece. Thanks for posting the recipe, it is one I will keep.
     
  5. This is almost the same as our family's cake we make for just about everyone's birthday. I love it so much. I love the texture the icing gets when you top it with ice cream.<br/>The differences in the versions are very subtle: in the cake we use 1/2 C water and 1 C buttermilk. We don't use vanilla in the cake, but I will try that. We bake for 25 minutes at 350 and frost while warm. You can just pour the frosting over the cake and it will spread, but you might want to put some newspaper under the pan to catch any drips. <br/>Thanks for sharing, now I don't have to type my recipe up, I can just refer to yours!
