I got a Sunbeam bread machine for christmas, but the recipe from their book was not very good. This recipe had me at "butter"! It has turned out really great every time I have made it! I make it on the 1.5# loaf setting with the lightest crust color. It is great on its own with some butter, but also makes great sandwiches and toast.

I found this recipe to be very adaptable to deliberate changes and accidental mistakes. I reduced the sugar to 2 tablespoons and increased the salt to 2 teaspoons. I'm not a huge fan of sweet bread unless it's something like cinnamon rolls. Anyway, after putting everything in the machine I checked it at 5 minutes mixing. It was just a wet mess! I thought I might have left out 1 cup of flour so I added a cup and restarted the mixing process. After another 5 minutes I checked and it was still too wet. At that point I reread the recipe and realized I had doubled the liquids! With a heavy sigh I decided to try making a double recipe on the dough cycle. I added the ingredients to make a double recipe and set it on the dough setting - or so I thought! I realized I had put it on the wrong setting when I smelled it starting to bake. I very quickly took it out of the bread machine and put it into an oiled bowl, hoping it wasn't a lost cause. After an hour it had risen but by this time it was very very late. I needed to get to bed. I put the bowl of dough into the refrigerator, where it stayed for about 12 hours before I was able to work with it again. It had risen a tiny bit while in the refrigerator, so I put it out on the counter to rest and warm up. After that I shaped half into rolls and half into a loaf. I really thought it would fail because of all the things that had happened and the time since I'd started the night before. To my great surprise, the rolls rose nice and big and so did the loaf, although the loaf took a bit longer. I surprisingly ended up with 24 delicious rolls and a soft loaf of bread! So, this isn't necessarily a tweak, but instead it's a story of how so many events happened to try to make this bread fail, but it turned out wonderful!

This bread is superb! So moist and delish! Our adult adopted daughter came over and saw what we were eating, she grabbed her adopted mom hand and took a big bite out of it. She loved the taste. I will make more of this "Oh Lordy"! bread that will go with Sunday brunch or soup. My wife went yum num num! We still love the taste of buttery bread. This just became our favorite bread. Thank you for sharing the sweet butter bread recipe. We gave it a big five stars!

I started my cooking journey full blown about 4 years ago because my kids started to eat more solids and we moved to a little town. I wanted to Introduce my kids to a different variety of food hence I cooked them at home since we can't get them out here.
