  • In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Combine the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • Shape into two 5-in. rolls; wrap in plastic wrap.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Unwrap; cut into 1/4-in. slices.
  • Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove to wire racks to cool.
