Sauerkraut Hotdish

"I was searching for a different recipe in our old, neglected recipe box & came across this. NO idea where it came from, but it does sound "interesting". Haven't made it, but just might SOON!"

• Ingredients: 8
• Serves: 6-8

ingredients

• 1 lb ground beef
• 1⁄2 lb bacon, cut-up
• 1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, drained
• 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
• 2 cups mashed potatoes
• 1⁄2 cup water
• seasoned salt & pepper, to taste
• 2 -3 tablespoons butter

directions

1. Place Sauerkraut in a collander & rinse well -- set aside to drain.
2. Brown the ground beef & bacon together -- drain all but 1 T. fat.
3. Season the kraut to taste & add to meat mixture.
4. Add water & cover.
5. Simmer for 1 hour.
6. Place in a lightly buttered cassarole dish.
7. Top with mashed potatoes & dot with butter.
8. Bake in oven, uncovered for 1/2 hour @ 350°.

I have made this dsh for a long time minus the bacon--but will try bacon now. My FIL loved it as I did. Try it I'm sure if you like saurkraut you will love it.
