  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Place 12 cupcake liners in a standard size muffin pan.
  • Melt 1 stick butter in a microwave safe bowl.
  • Stir in brown sugar
  • Add egg, milk, maple syrup & maple extract, mix well.
  • Sift together dry ingredients, flour, baking powder & salt.
  • Add nuts (optional).
  • Divide batter evenly between 12 cupcake liners.
  • Top with crystal sugar or sugar in the raw granular sugar for a crunchy topping.
  • Bake 15 minutes.
