For Bread
- 8 cups flour
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, melted
- 5 eggs
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups of warm milk

Filling
- 1 lb poppy seeds or 1 lb ground nuts
- 1 cup sugar
- 3⁄4 cup margarine or 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup milk, hot
- 1 fresh lemon rind
- raisins, for sprinkling on top (optional)
directions
- Combine all filling ingredients (except raisins) and beat well.
- Set aside.
- Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of the warm milk.
- Combine the flour, sugar, salt and eggs.
- Add remainder of the milk, butter and yeast mixture.
- Beat until elastic.
- Sprinkle top with a little flour and cover with a cloth.
- Let stand in a warm place until double in size.
- Punch down.
- Divide the dough into 2 pieces.
- Put on floured board and roll out into a rectangle.
- Spread with cooled filling and sprinkle with raisins.
- Roll like a jelly roll.
- Place in greased pan and let stand to rise again.
- Brush top with margarine or butter bake for 45-60 minutes in 350 degree oven.

I just ran across this and will be giving it some reviews that will be the best I can give it my mother made these poppy and nut rolls my whole life from child to a full blown adult and spent manny days in kitchen with her and can remember the ingredients but not how much of what mom was polish from Warsaw Poland and I had plane don getting her to jog it down but never would ask she was still young when she taken so quickly that was back in 1990 was 60 years young I'm older than that now and still don't believe it and never did ask for the complete recipe from her So I will try this one and will give all of family one to try there is seven of us every two years my mother gave birth to another five sisters and I did get to have a brother ten years later I was the first born and got to see the other six and got my chance to help raise them weather I wanted to or not and so everyone says that I'm an excellent cook most of my mother food and my fathers mother or grandmother she was a great cook with the old old recipes my mother picked up a lot from her to my mother love forever And I do miss you mom Love always Your first Malcolm
