Martini in Black

"From the January 2003 issue of Bon Appetit, R.S.V.P. section. Jackie Campbell from Phoenix, AZ writes, "The Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad has a very elegant bar. All the Martinis are served in gorgeous handblown glasses that are made in England. When I was there, I bought a few as souvenirs, and now I need the recipe for my favorite drink: the after-dinner Martini served there, which tastes like a White Russion with a shot of espresso.""

• Ingredients: 5
• Serves: 2

ingredients

• 1⁄4 cup whipping cream, chilled
• 6 tablespoons vodka
• 6 tablespoons Kahlua (or other coffee liqueur)
• 1⁄4 cup espresso coffee, freshly brewed, chilled
• ice cube

directions

1. In small bowl, whisk cream until just thickened; set aside.
2. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add vodka, Kahlua, and espresso; shake well.
3. Strain into 2 Martini glasses.
4. Top with whipped cream and serve.

This is really good, but very sweet. I ended up stirring the whipped cream into the drink to try and cut some of the sweetness. Overall, a very good dessert drink.

Wow, what a great dessert drink! It has a wonderful, rich coffee flavor with sweetness from the Kahlua, and the homemade whipped cream adds a nice creaminess. It also looks really good! Thanks for posting, ~Sue
