COOKIES
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 1⁄2 cup molasses
- 1⁄3 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1⁄2 teaspoon clove
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon

FROSTING
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1⁄3 cup butter, softened
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk (approx.)
directions
- FOR COOKIES: Mix together sugar, water, molasses, shortening and egg.
- Sift together remaining dry ingredients and add to molasses mixture.
- Bake@ 400 for 8 minutes.
- Cool~ Frost with Vanilla Frosting.
- FOR FROSTING: Mix together sugar and butter; beat in vanilla and enough milk to make it smooth and of spreading consistency.

This soft dough puffs up into beautiful cake-like cookies that taste like gingerbread. I scooped teaspoonfuls of the batter, spaced them on a greased baking sheet. One recipe yielded 65 one and a half inch cookies. I cut the frosting recipe in half because I didn't want so much. I was still able to frost all but about 10 cookies. Thank you very much for sharing this delightful recipe.
