ingredients
- 8 ounces flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 ounces soft brown sugar
- 3 ounces chopped dates
- 2 ounces black treacle
- 1 1⁄2 ounces chopped walnuts
- 1 ounce butter
- 1⁄4 pint milk
directions
- Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Preheat the oven to 350F/ gas 4.
- Sieve the flour, salt, baking powder and soda into a bowel. Add the dates and nuts.
- Heat the sugar, treacle, butter and milk gently until the sugar dissolves, stirring carefully.
- Stir with a metal spoon into the dry ingredients, mixing well. Do not beat.
- Pour the batter into the prepared tin.
- Bake for 1 hour.

Made this just for ourselves since I always enjoy the taste of dates & molasses, especially this time of year!
