Cry Baby Cookies

"These cookies are from 1937. They have been in my "special" cook-book for years, but I don't know where it came from. They are really good..the true old-fashioned kind! I usually get about 3 doz., but that depends on how big of a spoon you use to drop them on the cookie-sheet."

• Yields: 2-3 dozen

ingredients

• 1 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup molasses
• 2 eggs
• 4 1⁄2 cups flour
• 2 teaspoons cinnamon
• 2 teaspoons ginger
• 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1 cup raisins, chopped
• 1 cup nuts, chopped
• 1 cup hot coffee

directions

1. Cream shortning, sugar, molasses and eggs together.
2. In a seperate bowl, sift flour, cinnamon, ginger, salt and.
3. soda together.
4. Stir in raisins and nuts.
5. Alternately add flour mixture and coffee, beating well after each addition.
6. Drop from a teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets.
7. Bake in a moderate oven (350 F) until done, about 7-10 minute.

This is very much like my grandmother's receipe (she died in 1927) The added nuts are very good.
