"This is a recipe that my MIL made and it is so simple and tasty. I originally made this in the oven, but found that it is easier in the crock pot."

  1. As others have stated I found the broth a bit too sour for my taste. However, I tweaked the recipe by adding 1 twelve-ounce can of beer to it. This seemed to neutralize the acid quite nicely bringing the sweetness of the brown sugar forward. I have it in the crockpot now and will see how it turns out in a few hours.

  2. I read the review about being too sour. I know white vinegar can be very overpowering so I decided to drop a 1/4 cup off the white and add a 1/4 cup to the cider vinegar. Just tasting the mixture in the bowl before cooking I think the balance of acid and sugar is perfect. I also added one shredded medium red onion to mix. We'll see in 8 hours how it comes out. I'll keep you posted.

  3. The cabbage came out really sour tasting for me...my family really didn't like this at all.
