Colorful Fruit Kabobs

"This is basically fruit salad - on a stick! It's a great, healthy side for kids or elderly people who have trouble handling plates. It does take a bit of time to assemble, but the results look stunning at a baby shower, birthday party, or cookout! The goal is to make the skewer colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue. You can, however, substitute any fruit you'd like. You can also reverse the order in which you put the fruit on the skewer, and dip the bottom of the strawberry in chocolate. Have fun!"

directions

  • If using wooden or bamboo skewers, make sure all the splinters are off of them by rolling two together in your hands, or rub them over each other, as if you are sharpening a knife.
  • Cut the fruit that is not already small into 1-inch, or bite-size, chunks.
  • First, skewer the strawberry.
  • Then, skewer the cantelope or orange.
  • Then, skewer the pineapple.
  • Then, skewer the kiwifruit or honewdew melon.
  • Then, finish the skewer with 2 blueberries on the pointed end. Make sure to push them up fairly high, so they don't slip off.

  4. How do I describe my fruit kabob experience? Ztaprullas, tubiddi...oh, don't mind me, I'm just trying to think of a new word to describe it because I can't seem to find one that already exists...blabblarfuses, shamabluious. Tagged in Everyday Is A Holiday.

  5. I'm not sure why but food eaten off a stick always tastes better! Thank you for the great idea, the fruit kabobs are delicious.

Tweaks

  1. Only for aesthetics and a little more symmetry, I would begin and end with three blueberries, and then place the 'strawberry' between the two mandarin orange sections. The red would kind of break-up all that 'orange-yellow' in the middle of the kabob.

I am an active lady, and I am not the top chef in the world, but I can hold my own. I love making things that remind me of when I was little, I love trying out new recipes, and I love learning new things to cook. Most of the recipes I post are recipes I loved that I found online, but that I have tweaked just a bit. I do have some family recipes on here too. I love to bake, probably more than anything else in the kitchen. I love to bike ride. I like to read, travel, kayak (I've only been twice, but I loved it), hike, camp, basically any outdoorsy/active stuff.?
