Eggless Date Apple & Walnut Cake

Ingredients

    1. 60 g butter or 60 g margarine
    2. 1/4 cup brown sugar
    3. 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    4. 1 teaspoon hot water
    5. 3/4 cup apple puree
    6. 1 cup wholemeal self-rising flour
    7. 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
    8. 1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
    9. 2 teaspoons slivered almonds

Directions

  1. Set oven at 180dg c .
  2. Grease and line a 200mm bar tin.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix bi-carb and water. Stir bi-carb mixture into all other ingredients (except almonds)and mix well.
  5. Place in pan and sprinkle with the slivered almonds.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
  7. Cool on rack and cut into bars.
  8. Serve warm with whipped cream or cold.
