  • Dissolve 1/4 cup sugar in 1.5 cups warm water. Add 5 tbs yeast and let bloom for 10 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the remaining sugar with the butter and eggs, then mix in the 1.5 cups of hot water and the lemon rind.
  • Add 2 cups of flour, mixed with the salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Mix in the yeast mixture, and then gradually mix in the remaining flour. Knead well.
  • Knead in the raisens, citron, and slivered almonds (dusted with a bit of flour). Knead well!
  • Raise once.
  • Form into loaves, with a log of marzipan in the middle (optional).
  • Brush with butter, and bake at 350 for 30 - 45 minutes.
