Italian Stewed Tomatoes

ingredients

• 1 (16 ounce) can whole tomatoes
• 1⁄2 tablespoon butter
• 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
• 1⁄2 teaspoon sugar
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch
• 1 tablespoon diced celery
• 1 tablespoon diced onion

directions

1. Bring all ingredients to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until mixture is of medium thickness.

I sometimes have a hard time finding canned stewed tomatoes at the store. I needed it for a recipe so I used this in place.

Made these to go with Recipe #52267 and Recipe #44220. It was a good simple side dish and even though they weren't seasoned the way I usually have them we enjoyed them.

I love stewed tomatoes and these were great. I used fresh tomatoes (mixture of roma and round) and it turned out almost soupy. So I went to the store and bought a small can of tomatoes, drained them and dumped them in and Voila. . .perfection! Nice flavor. Will keep this one.
