  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Pour flour, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly. Add buttermilk at once and mix with a wooden spoon until dry ingredients have been moistened. The dough should be slightly lumpy, do not over mix.
  • Split the dough into two equal parts and gently knead each one to form two round mounds of dough. Put cooking paper on a baking tray and put the two mounds of dough on the tray. Using a sharp knife, cut 1/2 inch deep perpendicular slits on the top of each mound to form crosses.
  • Put the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. When the bread is ready, it should make a hollow sound when its bottom is tapped with the tip of a finger.
  • Let the bread cool on a cooling rack for a few minutes before serving.
