Sesame and Licorice Glazed Spareribs

Spareribs
- 3 whole slabs spareribs, cut in half vertically
- 3 quarts beef or 3 quarts chicken stock
- 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
- 5 whole garlic cloves
- salt

Sesame Licorice Glaze
- 1 tablespoon garlic, freshly minced
- 1⁄2 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1⁄4 cup corn syrup
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons garlic and red chile paste
- 1⁄2 cup pineapple tidbits, with juice
- 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
directions
- Place the ribs in a large stockpot and cover with stock. Add the garlic, Five spice powder and salt and bring to a boil. Simmer on medium-high heat for 1 hour. Remove and let cool in a big roasting pan.

Sauce:
- Place all of the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Pour all over the ribs and toss gently to coat. Place in refrigerator and let marinate with the sauce at least overnight.
- To Cook: Heat outdoor grill and place ribs on grill. Cook on both sides until caramelized and heated through.
- To Cook In Oven: Preheat oven to 425 degrees and place ribs on a foil lined roasting pan or cookie sheet. Cook about 35 minutes until caramelized and heated through.
- Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top of ribs and cut into bite size pieces.
