If you follow this method of cooking basmati rice it will be perfect and fluffy every time; the rinsing is very important as it removes alot of the starch. It is best to use a rice cooker, but can be cooked in a saucepan with equal success.
- Put the rice in your ricemaker ( or saucepan ) and rinse several times with cold water swishing gently with your hand to release excess starch. Drain.
- Add the 2 1/4 cups cold water to the ricemaker ( saucepan ) and the salt.
- Turn the ricemaker on and leave until done. ( Or bring the saucepan to a boil, cover and simmer on low for 20 mins ).
My new favorite rice! I was reluctant to stray from the typical white rice my family adores but the basmati was received with rave reviews from EVERYONE.
This was excellent! I doubled the recipe and it came out light & fluffy! Thank you for posting! I had never made basmati rice before and I was looking for a simple recipe.
Really is perfect, I devoured it. I don't have a rice cooker, I used stovetop electric, which still turned out perfect.
