Panama Canal Dessert

"This is one of my families favorite desserts. This recipe seems to have a lot of different names, and they are all delicious. 5/10/2021 I made this recipe with lactose free milk, dairy free whipped topping, and alternative cream cheese by Kitehill cream cheese. It turned out delicious. Using just 4 cups of milk with 3 pkgs of pudding (4 oz ) the instant pudding turned out the perfect consistency.. This can be made dairy free with delicious results."

  1. Thanks for your WONDERFUL photo, Lavender Lynn. It inspired me immed. to make it for Valentine's Day! I actually made Recipe #26213 (slightly scaled back ingred. amounts) and didn't see your "Panama Canal" recipe till afterwards. Your photo is my favorite dessert photo on Zaar! This dessert is the BEST and sure to please- I will be sure to include this for my holiday menus, too. Thanks for posting. Roxygirl

  2. Very interesting! The base was kind of bland, I think next time I'll add cinnamon or something. The cream cheese layer was something new with the icing added. For the pudding layer I only had 2 boxes of chocolate pudding so I added a box of banana pudding. I skipped the cool whip layer since we're not too big on plain cool whip here. Thanks for something new!

  3. My daughter makes this for every holiday and it is so good. It is very rich, but wonderful. She uses pecans in the crust, but otherwise the recipe is the same.

  4. Reviewed for Taggame in August08. I loved this! The only problem was that the pudding got a little too stiff so i could not really smear it on the cream cheese layer. But i have no clue what to do about that. I used hazel nuts in the 1st layer which fitted well with the chocolate. I will make this again, thank you!

  5. This dessert is so delicious. Everyone loved it. We did make our own whipped cream from scratch super quickly and it turned out great. I am positive you will not regret making this!
