  • Heat shortening in a heavy skillet or dutch oven on medium heat.
  • Saute the onion until translucent.
  • Add flour and cook for one minute, stirring constantly.
  • Add everything else and simmer for at least 20 minutes.

I live in New Mexico where I hope to open a restaurant some day. Most of my recipes come from my grandmother's old recipe box which I inherited. I just enjoy cooking for people and seeing the satisfaction on their faces after eating a good meal.
