This recipe is what has been used in my family since I was old enough to eat banana bread. It tastes really good! I like to add vanilla, cinnamon and/or nutmeg to mine.
- 1⁄2 cup melted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1⁄2 cups mashed bananas
- chopped nuts, to taste (optional)
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan.
- Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean (about 45 minutes).
****UPDATE*** I wrote this review back in 2005 and have to say I make this at least once a week ... this is my favorite dessert of all time...... What a wonderful bread!! Made it for the BF which just loved it. Everyone should try this one!! Thanks for the awesome receipe!
After trying several, I came across this recipe and haven't gone for a different one since. I usually use SmartBalance instead of butter, and use the recommended spices. Sometimes I also sweeten it up with chocolate chips.
I made this without any other the suggested spice additions.......I only noticed those after it was in the oven! Anyhow, this was delicious, a lovely texture and very simple to make. Thanks for the recipe!
