This is from the yellowest, blotchy recipe card in the house, so you know it has been used a LOT! This is my Cincinnati husband's mother's recipe and they just called it BBQ. It is really Sloppy Joes, but what can you expect from people who eat Greek chili on spaghetti? Ha! Cincinnati chili is actually fabulous if you haven't tried it! Now here's the "BBQ" AKA Sloppy Joes!
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup catsup
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 1⁄2 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 6 sandwich buns
- Brown beef in skillet.
- Drain grease.
- Combine remaining ingredients and pour over beef.
- Mix well.
- Simmer slowly for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Serve on your choice of rolls. (I like onion or potato rolls with this).
This was really good and quick to make. I usually use tomato sauce to make sloppy joes, but if I want to make it last minute and don't have any I have to make something else...I like that this uses ketchup, we ALWAYS have that!! Was not too tangy with the ingredients and the hot sauce added a nice bite, but not too spicy! Made for Spring PAC 2010.
Very fast, easy, and delicious sloppy joes! I invited my neighbors to dine with me and we all enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing Felina! Made for Fall 2009 PAC.
We just had this for dinner and my family loved it. My children ate so much more then they usually do and then they said can we have that for dinner every night. You gotta love them kids. So thank you very much for this great recipe!!!
