This is a recipe adapted from a Norwegian cookbook, made each year by my cousin's husband. Note: The almonds and raisins can be added for flavor while standing, then strained before pouring.

  1. 1. Combine wine, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and orange peel in saucepan. Stir to blend.
  2. 2. Let stand 3-4 hours.
  3. 3. Heat, but do not boil.
  4. 4. Light with a match and pour burning into heatproof cups containing a few almonds and raisins.
