Jam Squares

"This is a very old recipe that I found in my grandmother's recipe box. These are fabulous! :-) I like them best with strawberry preserves, but you can try them with others. Just make sure you use PRESERVES!"

  1. delicious! I didn't have enough oats so I used 1 1/4 c oats and 1/4 unsweetened dessicated coconut...and homemade jam.

  2. A fast, satisfying dessert that satisfied my sweet tooth. Mine turned out more like a cobbler...the bars only slightly firmed up...but it was still tasty. Thanks for the recipe! -FireRaven

  3. My family and I really enjoy these. I didn't have any preserves so I cooked up rhubarb, strawberries and raspberries plus sugar and it worked real well. Thank you

  4. Yummy to the extreme L4C, Terrific. Halved the recipe (silly me) and got 16 in any case. and 4 have already gone in my son's snack box for school. 4 in my tummy and 4 in DH's and there is going to be an auction you bet for the rest of the pcs. :) I used quick cooking oats wonder if they are the same as quick oats and strawberry Preserve from Mahabaleshwar (most famous here) Thanks for this wonder by thunder. :)Fay

  5. Oh YUM Love4...I made these yummy bars last night, and they turned out soooooo good!!! I had raspberry jam in my fridge that I wanted to use up, I had your Jam square recipe in my cookbook, and I new this was the one!...great light buttery crust, easy to put together, just what I like, I will be making a second batch, cause this one is already gone (lucky I got to have at least one!)..I wonder how it would be with orange marmalade?, I think I will give it a try....Thank you for such a wonderful recipe Love4, this is definately a keeper :-)

Tweaks

  1. These are fabulous! I made them using peach preserves because I've been on a peach kick lately, and used unsalted margarine instead of the butter for dietary reasons. They were golden brown in my oven after about 30 minutes, and they came out tasting rich and delicious! I actually cut them larger than you specified, and got 16 bars instead. I've already eaten 2 of them, and I can't wait to have another! I will definitely be trying this recipe again using different flavors of preserves! Thanks for a great recipe, Angela!
