If a recipe calls for Buttermilk and you have none on hand use this homemade version. It is much cheaper then buying it and works just as well. NOTE: Please make sure all ingredients are at room temperature or the mixture wil curdle on you.
- Pour milk in a 32 oz measuring cup.
- Slowly stir in vinegar and mix well.
- Add water, slowly while stiring to fill to the 32 oz mark; mix well.
Used this buttermilk when making mashed potatoes and they tasted great. I like that this recipe saves me money and works as well as real buttermilk. I needed buttermilk to make Blueberry Buttermilk Oatmeal Pancakes. The recipe called for 2 cups so I scaled this recipe down by half. It work wonderfully. Thanks for sharing. Made for 1~2~3 Hits ~ June 2010
