This recipe from CDKitchen for Heavy Cream Substitute serves/makes 1 cup, I got tired of looking for this everytime I wanted to make something that called for Heavy Cream, so posting it here where I know it will be when I need it next time--!

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 34 cup milk (skim, low fat, regular )
  • 13 cup margarine, melted and cooled (I use Brummel & Brown Yogurt Butter)


  1. Combine the two ingredients in small bowl and use in place of one cup of Heavy Cream in recipes.

I read the other reviews and noticed they were all used in pies and things like that. I went to make fettuccine Alfredo only to realize I forgot the heavy cream. So I googled for substitutes and stumbled upon this. I'm not going to lie I was skeptical and fully prepared to have to order pizza if this didn't work. I doubled the recipe and it worked out great. However because Alfredo sauce already has butter in it next time I will add a little less butter. I did add a little bit of flour to thicken it up a little bit. I will definitely be using this again.

I used this to substitute heavy cream in my Chicken Pot Pie recipe (I forgot to buy the heavy cream when grocery shopping). It worked wonderfully. The only thing I did differently was to add a tablespoon of flour (I used skim milk). Thanks for posting saved our meal. I will be using this recipe again.
