Please don't make this - I'm trying to find the original scrap of paper I had it written on to see what I goofed in copying. Thanks!........ .................... ............ ........ ..................... ....................... ......................... ......... ................... ..................................... .......................................... .............. ............. ....................... I got this from a friend while in Germany. It is very easy, but you have to stay with it. It is always popular at our holiday treat exchange.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 cup butter (NOT margarine)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 lb milk chocolate chips or 1 lb semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. In heavy saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and water. Stirring constantly bring to 300* on candy thermometer.
  2. Remove from heat - add vanilla and stir (careful, it will bubble).
  3. Pour into foil lined or silpat covered cookie sheet - sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  4. When the chips melt, spread the chocolate over like frosting.
  5. After it sets, break into pieces and place in airtight container.

I must have made a mistake somewhere along the line so better not give stars here till I re try. I used candy thermometer and got to 300 but did not know how long to cook at this temp. It did not set hard enough to break into pieces.
