I know that there is a lot of recipes here for ranch dressing, and why not; it is so good! This is my version. After making several of the other versions on this site and playing around, I wanted something a little more healthy. Since finding "diet food" ie, low fat mayo, sour cream, etc. is just not possible in France, I decided to try plain yogurt. It is so good! This has the consistancy of a dip; if you want more of a dressing, don't drain the yogurt. This does get better if it sits, however, if you are making it well in advance, use dried or powedered garlic, as it will get pretty strong. I like it, but some of you may not be as avid of a garlic lover as I am.
- 8 ounces plain yogurt, drained
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1⁄8-1⁄4 fluid ounce vinegar, splash (optional)
- salt and pepper
- Mix together and cover to chill. I never seem to get this far, though!
This may be healthy, but for me it did not taste anything like ranch dressing. The amount of onion powder overwhelmed all the other flavors. Sorry, but we did not like this at all.
